Andreas Samaris is a midfielder for both Benfica and the Greek National Team (Ethniki Omada). He wears the number 7 shirt for Benfica, who is currently in first place in their league. He wears number 22 in the Greek National Team for whom he scored his first international goal during the FIFA World Cup in 2014 against Ivory Coast. As a substitute for the injured Panagiotis Kone, Samaris scored in the 43rd minute of the match, where Georgios Samaras later scored, carrying Greece to the next round.

 

Samaris first played for his hometown team, PAO Varda, before starting his professional career in 2006 for Panachaiki. Here he scored 3 goals in his 37 appearences with the red and blacks. He then transferred to Panionios on the 11th January, 2010. With Panionios, he scored a goal during his 49 appearences, before moving to a Greek favourite, Olympiacos FC. He signed with Olympiacos in August, 2012.

 

In the famous red and white stripes, Samaris as number 14 scored 4 goals in his 38 appearences during his time in 2012-2014. His exceptional talent with Olympiacos and during FIFA 2014 landed him an offer of 10 million euros to sign with Portuguese club Benfica. He had now departed from the Superleague and was playing for the top team in the Primeira Liga.
